THE CAMPAIGN COALITION
FOR HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 23

Empowering a new generation of young voters!

The Campaign Coalition for House Joint Resolution 23 (H J Res 23) is working to make sure that we will lower the voting age to 16 in the United States- by campaigning to support and pass Rep. Grace Meng's H J Res 23.

We believe our strength comes from our determination to give a vote to all those who work and live in our communities. Most importantly, we need to enfranchise a new generation of taxpaying voters who will one day lead and improve the communities they work and live in. House Joint Resolution 23 gives us a reason to work together in order to empower our respective organizations no matter what issue(s) we're focused on addressing.

The key to finding solutions that work for young people is by giving them a vote-

because there is no better advocate for their needs than themselves.

That is why for 2021, we have decided to launch The Campaign Coalition for House Joint Resolution 23!

THE CAMPAIGN COALITION FOR HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 23

Join the Movement!

The Campaign Coalition for House Joint Resolution 23 wants to lower the voting age to 16. We believe now is the right time to make this happen through Rep. Grace Meng's sponsored bill to lower the voting age for federal elections.

With your help, young people can begin to address issues that affect them in their everyday lives even at a young age. Young people who work, pay taxes and deal with modern-day problems need modern-day solutions to solve the problems they face. With a vote, they can have a say on where their tax dollars go, who represents them in office and weigh in on issues that affect them- just like every taxpaying individual.

Supporting H J Res 23's passage gives young people a voice, a vote and the ability to make a difference.

ACTION ITEMS TO SUPPORT H J RES 23

Things you can do to support the movement:

The Campaign Coalition for House Joint Resolution 23 is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We work on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of others, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make.

Below are some action items we're hoping to do in regards to this campaign in order to make the bill more likely to succeed. The great part about this campaign is everyone can participate- you don't need to go to the polls, support any particular candidate, need endorsement from an organization or need to consult with a political party. It's completely bipartisan, just like Rep. Ayanna Pressley's version of the bill in 2019, and very grassroots in our approach.

Rather than one big organization with a select few at the top, we are a collaboration of organizations nationwide focused on intersectionality- addressing a diverse set of issues affecting a majority of mostly young people. Below are some action items you can participate in to give others a voice where they don't already have one.

GET THE WORD OUT

Tell all your immediate friends and network about the movement. Then tell them all to tell their local representatives.

At The Campaign Coalition for House Joint Resolution 23, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing this issue. At this time, lowering the voting age is an important issue- we have a bill to make that happen, we have a diverse number of people and organizations who support the idea and with your help, the grassroot resources rooted in your individual contributions. Check out the columns to the right to see how you can help even more!

CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES

Your representatives will be the first to vote and checkpoint on this important bill. They're also the easiest to reach- most will have some way to get contacted by their constituents in the areas they represent. Let them know that you support Grace Meng's bill!

If representatives don't see big support for H J Res 23 and have not made up their mind about it, they might either not vote for it or vote to oppose it. If enough people contact their representatives in support for the bill, then they are more likely to vote in favor of it rather than oppose it or not vote at all.

This campaign wants to make sure we want to be heard loud and clear, so reach out to your local representative and keep reading and sharing this website!

MOBILIZE OTHERS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

Online support for the bill is just as important as talking to those in your immediate circle and your local representatives. Once you've reached out to those you know and who represent you, the next step is to let everyone else know.

Social media is a great way to reach others in ways an email, a phone call and word of mouth can't. A significant part of this campaign strategy is get the hashtag #16ToVote to trend. We have a plan set up for that and would like every person with a social media account to post as much as it can once there are significant development on the bill, i.e. a reading of it, the day it is voted on, etc.

If the bill and the hashtag get enough views on social media, we can also get others across the U.S. to get involved in the two other action items, causing a loop effect where we can generate support and reach out to get more supporters.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

Right now, there are so many bills across the U.S. attempting to restrict voting rights. Restricting the vote is counterintuitive to democracy- democracy should be about expanding rights, not limiting it.

Lowering the voting age to 16 is preserving, expanding and protecting democracy. However, efforts to try to restrict voting rights is an injustice and threatens democracy everywhere.

Think about this: while there are many bills out there to restricting voting rights, there's only one- one bill that seeks to expand democracy.

& that bill is House Joint Resolution 23.

The time is always right to do right."
-Martin Luther King Jr.

The campaign for H J Res 23 is not a trick. It is based on a real bill, written by a real representative with real-world consequences that can help real people.

It threatens no one's existing rights while empowering people with few rights. It gives young people who face real-world issues a platform to declare their grievances and find solutions for them.

If H J Res 23 passes, today's future leaders will be empowered to better deal with tomorrow's challenges. If it does not pass, then young people who have much at stake in today's world will continue to be locked out of the democratic process and not be able to address issues that affect them here and now.

Support H J Res 23- It has always been the right thing to do. If there was ever a more "righter" time than always, then that time is right now!
